Apricot pear porridge

A huge favourite with my two youngest and a great way of using up ripe pears, this porridge is a delicious healthy breakfast that will help see little (and big) people right through to lunch. No refined sugars, and can be both gluten and dairy free if you use gluten-free oats and either almond or coconut milk. If you’re making it for a little baby, simply whizz it in a blender once cooked for a lovely smooth consistency.

Makes 2-3 small or one large bowl

Ingredients

75g oats

1 ripe pear

Handful of dried apricots

300ml milk of your choice

Method

Peel the pear and chop into small chunks

Finely chop the apricots

Put all the ingredients into a pan and bring to a gently warm.

Allow to simmer for five to ten minutes, then divide between bowls and serve – with a few slices of fresh ripe pear or chopped dried apricots and nuts on the top.
